Change is a constant, especially in the dynamic landscape of community engagement and philanthropy. Since our inception more than thirty years ago, Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation (LAMVCF) has been unwavering in our commitment to community well-being. This commitment remains at the core of our work today.

As our community has evolved – becoming more populous, with greater diversity and, unfortunately, pronounced socio-economic disparities – we also re-examined our part in supporting the community. We’ve spent the last year with staff, board members, grantees, and other stakeholders, examining what exactly it means to be a community partner today. What does it take to bring people, ideas, and resources together to address concerns and ensure that Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View continue to thrive?

We concluded that to serve our neighbors better, adapt to evolving needs, and become even more relevant and supportive, we needed to update our mission statement and rally our work around it. The mission statement must reflect our commitment to inclusivity, creativity, and community engagement as we enter our fourth decade—to be more than a community bank—a true community asset.

With this in mind, the new mission of LAMVCF is to grow a vibrant, equitable, and caring community by connecting our neighbors with opportunities to make lasting local impact. We feel this statement most accurately reflects the work that we need to do ourselves and help make happen around us, in order to ensure a community where everyone thrives. It is also a statement we feel will act as a bridge, connecting our rich history with a new generation of donors.

In addition, we updated our vision to:
We envision our three communities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and Mountain View as inclusive, collaborative and equitable.

We also ensured our values continued to build on and support this view:
Equity, Collaboration, Impact, Connection, Respect, and Empathy

We’ve worked to align our programs around this updated guiding philosophy. Residents in our area can expect to see:

  • More opportunities for residents to have conversations around key topics
  • More visible advocacy by LAMVCF around local policy decisions
  • Increased focus on building a strong nonprofit ecosystem with a more comprehensive nonprofit incubator program
  • A greater number of “collaboratories” where we try to remove barriers to new ideas with new partners and see what ensues.

It was also time to introduce a new visual identity to bring our updated mission, vision, and values to life. We collaborated with local design experts to develop a fresh look that captures the essence of our foundation and the dynamic and diverse community we serve. It is more than just a cosmetic change: it symbolizes our commitment to continuously exploring how to support our community best.
