Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation Awards $100,000 In Community Grants Towards Mental Health Support For Youth & Young Adults

For some time now, it has been clear to the staff and volunteers at Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation (LAMVCF) that our youth need urgent support for mental health needs, including:

  • More accessible services for young community members and their families;
  • Decreased stigma around needing mental health support;
  • Early intervention for struggling teens and tweens;
  • Education around the growing use of narcotics as self-medication for young people;
  • Scaffolding to help build skills for a successful transition to young adulthood.

During May, which appropriately was Mental Health Awareness Month, the committee finalized grants specifically geared to organizations serving vulnerable youth. In addition to funding projects for longtime grantees such as Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC) that will use its grant towards providing affordable mental health services, the Foundation is pleased to award funding to several new grantees, including Youth Community Services (YCS) and Justice Vanguard.A list of all grant recipients can be found here.

The Foundation will continue to focus on supporting the mental health needs of our young people through facilitating Community Conversations, advocating with government bodies, and identifying additional resources to direct toward this effort. Contact Nadja Jackson, Program Officer at LAMVCF at, if you are interested in learning more about the issues and how to help the organizations serving this population.

The Foundation operates the Community Grants program in partnership with the David & Lucile Packard Foundation and the Heising-Simons Foundation. Our next grant cycle will open in the fall of 2023 and will provide general operating support to organizations with impact in Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills.
