Inspired by 10,000 people in France participating in a flash-mob style lunch, the Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation called upon residents to meet in the Los Altos Village Plaza for dinner.

Residents had signed up for the event in advance, but the location and time of the dinner were released only three hours before the dinner began– the goal was spontaneity.

The Foundation worked in conjunction with the police department to use the area as well as to allow open alcohol downtown.

“It’s meant to keep downtown dynamic despite the construction,” said Roy Lave of the Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation. The event is meant to draw people out of their homes and to build a community.

Lave shrugged when asked when the next POP-UP would be: “We’ll do it irregularly,” he said.
